Notice is a formal information/message conveyed to public given by individuals and organizations. It can be conveyed through any media, i.e., audio, video or print media. Notice is generally displayed on notice boards which are specially for the same purpose in schools, institutions and organisations providing information of events like exams, holidays, functions, fairs, tours, camps, exhibitions, etc. Here we focus only on the format prescribed by CBSE.
A typical notice contains following parts :
➣ Head : Top most line institute/school name, then in next line the word 'NOTICE', then in next line on left hand side date is to be mentioned and then a catchy heading in the next line.
➣Body : It contains the information to be conveyed and it must answer the questions like What? When? Where?
An appeal can be called at the end of the body.
➣Subscription : Name of the body or person issuing the notice with designation of the person in parenthesis is to be mentioned in the bottom left hand side corner.
Format of writing a notice
- Name of the institute/organisation which is issuing the notice
- The word 'NOTICE' in capital letters
- Date
- A catchy heading, i.e., which immediately grabs the attention of the person
- Body which includes all instructions or agenda
- Signature of the issuer with designation

Points to ponder
- Name of the issuing body must be depicted at the top
- Must write the word 'NOTICE'
- Issuing date must be included
- The whole content must be enclosed in a box
- Word limit is to be kept in mind which is generally 50 words
- Complete information like for whom is this notice for and complete schedule of the event is to be specified
